The Patchwork Collective - 150 years of Liberty.

The Patchwork Collective - 150 years of Liberty.

At the start of the year, the call to action went out to stitchers and Liberty lovers around the globe. They were invited by Liberty to contribute a piece of work that would be used in a large-scale installation on display as part of the anniversary celebrations.

The 1000 individual blocks have been sewn together to make a large-scale Quilted house. The House was curated by Liberty but created by stitchers and Liberty Lovers around the world.

Did you submit a piece? This is the English Paper Pieced block that I sent.

The call was answered, and with 1,500 submissions, the supersized patchwork house was ready to be assembled.  The finished result truly is the ‘physical manifestation of the creativity, community, values and talent that make Liberty, Liberty’.

This glorious celebration of craft and creativity is now on display and can be seen, Liberty London, First Floor, East Gallery. Head upstairs from the Beauty Hall, or do what I did. Take the lift to the top floor and admire the house from each level on your way down.

On the First floor, you can walk under the house, and the stitched blocks become like panes of glass.

Here you will also find a seating area and five beautifully bound books with many of the blocks that didn’t make it into the ‘House’.

These are not only beautiful but is a lovely social area. While I was there, I had some lovely chats with some very supportive ladies who tried to help me find my contribution.

It was clear to see how much being part of this event meant to so many. You get the chance, I highly recommend a visit. For those of you who can't, I have done my best to capture it for you.

If your patch was used to 'build' the house, click on the image below to find a map and locate where your 'Patch' is.
